Today we bought a house, though still need to sign the papers (touch wood).

We are both pretty hyped, as you may realise this is neither of the houses that I showed earlier, but these things go fast. Top floor of 106 square metres with a basement of the same size. 4 bedrooms (room for exapnsion, who knows :-), sauna :-), garden.
Well thankfully this one is not made of cardboard, but the designers must have been smokin' something back in the 70's when this was built.
Really nice on the inside though, with a few nice extras like sauna and jacuzzi bath :-)
Werent too many other people there to look at it either, dont know if thats a good sign or not...

We have been living in the flat in Uppsala for about three years now and its been really great. Pretty quiet, nice little woody bit out the back and a pretty good size, but now with Elsa getting a bit bigger its starting to feel a bit small. It would also be really nice to be ble to invite people over to stay without having to move Elsa's bed into our room, not the best way to get a good nights sleep.
So the last couple of weeks we have started looking at houses. Unfortunately houses in Uppsala are really expensive, second most expensive after the island in Stockholm called Lidingö, so its going to be a bit of a jump up in price. The average house price is 2.1 million kronor.
A house we have seen on the web and think would be really good for us is having a viewing on Saturday, here's hoping that it looks ok in the flesh and that the price doesnt zoom up too much.
Its not far away from where we live now, we really like this area, and its the right size. Only bad thing is that it doesnt have its own bastu (sauna), but I suppose a little DIY is OK :-}
Dan Simmons: Ilium (Gollancz S.F.)
A pretty good science fiction take on Homer's Iliad. Definitely worth a read. (****)
John Meaney: Paradox
This was my first book by John Meaney and for most of the book I was pretty happy. It had a lot of interesting ideas about the structure of society and new types of technology. The biggest problem for me was that some of these could have used a lot more fleshing out. I had the feeling that somehow all these things would become clearer as the plot progressed but unfortunately that didnt happen. Still an enjoyable read by a new (to me) author. (***)
Iain M. Banks: Feersum Endjinn
I am a big fan of Iain M Banks and this was the first of his books that I read. Its a pretty unique story and the scale of the environment is a good new slant. When you start reading it takes a bit of time to get used to the parts that are written phonetically. But its worth sticking with it and after a while you almost dont notice :-) (*****)
Neal Stephenson: Cryptonomicon
This is a great book, especially if your even the smallest bit a geek. A good mix of face and fiction that is also humorous. Its not very often you get a blend of those that are as good as this. Big thumbs up. (*****)
